The New Book

So, I want to talk about the new book or maybe, as per the last post, 'The Next Best Thing'? Yeah right. That was quick.

I've been deliberating. Cogitating. You know like Lloyd whatsisname used to do. I've written 25000 words and was deciding whether to keep going with it (subject to a few changes) or dump it and start something new. Or write short stories again. But they're....short. And I sorta like 'longer stuff''.

So, re-work the current WIP it is. Which as it happens, means writing a little crime into it. I feel I may have invented a new genre here. Chick lit with crime. Off to buy the http://www.chimelit.co.uk/ domain!

Note to self. Stop buying domains.

Oooh Fi, stoppit! You're fast becoming a domain-hogger. A blogger-hogger - a very new procrastination tool if ever I heard of one - now back to work and ignore the draw of the domains!
p.s. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets to 20k and wonders if it's worth carrying on or not.Is this the Wall I've heard so much about?

I hit walls at all the 20 marks... 20, 40, 60 etc etc etc.

I have a lot of bruises.

Great word count. I wish mine was coming along that well.

I've definitely hit the wall at 25k, more than once.

Good for you for carrying on
and I love the sound of 'chimelit'!

The most frustrating aspect of commercial fiction writing is feeling you have to fit a specific genre - I reckon it's time for some new ones :o)

HI girls!

Debs R - love that 'blogger hogger'

Claire - you are a wonderful published author and have earned your bruises like badges of honour...

Debs - keep bashing those words out. One sentence at a time. It'll soon mount up. Ignore the delete key!

Karen - Chimelit it is then. Pass the word!

I've got 2 very different drafts of the same novel; combined about 60k but once I pare it down probably only 50k and I'm stuck.
When do you move on?
